I felt the need to really make this a major point as there are NO photos of it lit anywhere. it glows in beautiful mixed random colours and eminates from the statue perfectly. it looks like the movie, as the 2 colour changing LEDs I used work at different speeds (one slow one fast) and they sit one on top of the other PERFECTLY. it COMPLETES the look and THANK YOU THANK YOU WETA for setting this up for us to make it possible. trust me guys you will HAVE to add this on. no time for a switch yet as I HAD to see this ASAP!!. I used 2x5mm AUTO colourchange LED's from Jaycar electronics in parallel with a 2xAA batter holder. so the VERY FIRST THING TO DO IS LIGHT IT :P :D. Ok, so there is a deliberate area behind the Arkenstone to put some lighting in. This figure is of course to scale with the other figurines/Dwarves/Hobbits, and Gandalf, and looks sensational on display even by itself. BUY IT!.Īs other reviews have mentioned, the photos don't do it justice AT ALL!!. He's a showpiece - the majestic Thorin's grandfather, indeed. Can't stop staring at him and the exquisite details including the finger rings and raven crown and the gold-touched boots. I wouldn't mind owning two - Thror is that good and IMO a bargain, all things considered. This figure is special and can't believe I sat on the fence re purchase, because I would have hated myself later. May be a brief scene in the AUJ film but iconic IMO to PJ's dwarves and to folklore in general - the dwarf king in his halls of stone. A single piece that captures all of the richness of dwarf culture - as another reviewer wrote, it's a figure and environment in one. Beautifully and neatly painted, lovely color washes, the gleam of beautiful gold detailing, a wonderful sculpt with a sense of aliveness and movement. So go online and look up other pictures, because Thror IS THAT GOOD. Sure, in-hand he's not an exact duplicate of the shown WETA pic.
